On Honey Bees

A fascinating story on the plague that is sweeping across American Bees sometimes called Sudden Colony Collapse, when the bees simply leave their fully healthy colonies, is explored in this guest article from the New York Times.

My uncle has bees and I used to watch them for hours going about their lives.  The most interesting aspect was how after a while one could start to identify individuals.  Some bees took off and worked all day long, while some remained and watched the hive.  My favorite were those who did neither, but hung around the lids of the hive smoking  cigarettes and flipping  nickels in the air.
