On Negative Campaigns

One of the worst insults a politician can make to his potential constituents is the insult of stupidity.  McCain’s latest attack ads insult his own credibility, integrity and the beliefs and intelligence of his own supporters.  Linking Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Obama together is the most asanine example of talking down to his followers.

The McCain camp is insinuating that the American people cannot understand a smear, completely untrue, and tinged with racism argument.  Now some of you may be blanching that I brought ethnicity into this argument, but it is an important part of McCain’s plan to win this election.

McCain is trying to paint Obama as “not one of us.”  He is subtley trying to play up the “differences” between Obama and the American people.  Firstly there are no differences, Obama is an American with core values the same as the majority of Americans.  He believes in justice, truth, law fullness, the protection of the environment, health care for all Americans, and a sensible foreign policy that does not rely only on military force.

McCain’s campaign is in trouble indeed if their only remaining argument boils down to “My dad can beat up your dad” style of politics.
