On Valentine’s and Romance

Romance is not flowers and candy.  Romance is not telling him or her that she is the sun and the stars.  Romance is not filling bathtubs with flowers and scented oil.  Romance is not hiring a plane to make smoke signals in the air spelling out his or her name with the words “I love you XoXo.”

Romance is holding their hair while they sick up the extra glass of champagne that they should have declined.  Romance is waking up and checking if the partner needs anymore time to sleep.  Romance is taking out the trash and getting change for the laundry.  Romance is locking the door when you leave and pulling up the blankets across their backs as they toss and turn in sleep.

Valentine’s is a day that many people celebrate with elaborate horse rides and hired help and servants scrubbing shoes and dogs with red bows in their heads.   It is a holiday that is about the ones we care about and it should be shared in a way that reflects what we really mean to each-other.  Look into each other’s eyes and see what lies.

Happy Valentine’s Day.
